The municipality of Bahía Blanca, a city affected by a rainstorm that caused flooding and problems, issued recommendations for cleaning affected homes. Among the provided advice, it is recommended to clean with water and detergent, let the cleaning sit for 30 minutes before consumption, as well as to exercise caution when handling generators to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.
The population is advised to wash their hands thoroughly with soap and water after touching contaminated objects, avoid contact with stagnant water, and prevent children from playing in puddles. If neighbors show symptoms such as fever, headache, diarrhea, vomiting, or injuries, it is recommended to visit the nearest health center.
To disinfect, it is recommended to use bleach and water in appropriate proportions. Additionally, it is suggested to discard mattresses, stuffed animals, clothing, and objects that cannot be cleaned, as well as food and medications that have come into contact with water. It is advised to drink, cook, and brush teeth with mineral water, purified water, or with a few drops of bleach per liter.
When returning to affected homes, it is advised to open doors and windows, wait for 30 minutes, disconnect appliances, and ensure that the electrical system is dry before reconnecting them. Furthermore, it is recommended not to turn on appliances until they are completely dry.
Regarding cleaning and disinfection, the use of gloves, rubber boots, and, if possible, safety glasses is recommended to avoid accidents.
